Marketing News: WAITROSE FOOD ILLUSTRATED AND SPIKES AND BEER ARE MOST SUCCESSFUL MAGAZINES AT APA INTERNATIONAL CUSTOMER PUBLISHING AWARDS
Waitrose's iconic customer magazine, the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) and UK Athletics title Spikes and the Campaign for Real Ales' magazine BEER last night each won two awards each at the APA International Customer Publishing Awards, which celebrate effective and creative editorialised branded content.
Waitrose Food Illustrated, published by John Brown Media scored for Best Retail Consumer Publication and Best Use of Typography. Spikes, published by Haymarket Network also took an award in the Best Consumer Publication category, in the non-retail sector as well as its editor, David Hall, winning the coveted award for Editor of the Year. But it was BEER that took home the coveted Grand Prix award, described as the 'best of the best', having also scooped the award for Best not-for-profit, charity or association membership title.

A Bristol-based chain of coffee houses has served up a surprise by being voted the best in the UK.
Coffee#1, which has 11 stores across Bristol and South Wales, claimed the top national prize at the Beverage Service Association's (BSA) BEV-E awards – the industry equivalent of the Oscars. Judges, who rated all entrants for quality of beverage served, customer service, cleanliness, layout and ambience, were impressed by the very good experience offered at Coffee#1, also complementing the friendly, professional service and well-trained staff.
Owner James Shapland, who gave up a successful career in the City to found Coffee#1 eight years ago, said: This is a brilliant day not only for myself but for all our staff throughout Coffee#1 – especially our coffee trainer, Nancy, who has brought a fanatical devotion to ensuring our coffee is the best around.

Marketing News: This year's DMA Young Spark Award
The quest to find the most outstanding new talent in direct marketing in the UK has begun with the launch of this year's DMA Young Spark Award. Now in its fifth year, the award is given to the most outstanding new talent from an agency, supplier or client company across digital, direct, interactive or mobile marketing. Nominees must have worked in the industry for less than five years.
Entrants will be judged by a panel of experts including Chris Arnold, founder and director of Creative Orchestra; Gary Smith, partner at Hush; Maxine Reynolds, head of direct marketing, sales and legacies at Macmillan Cancer Support; and Chris Sherlock, marketing director at Equifax.
The award, together with a prize fund of £1000, will then be presented on 13 November at the DMA Scotland Ball. As well as taking on the title of 'Young Spark', the winner will also benefit from the help of a top industry mentor who will provide invaluable advice and support for the entire year.
