Marketing News: Differencis will unveil its new online advertising format at the London AdTech, September 2010.

Differencis will be on stand 227 with live product demos and presentations of the new ad format which takes a company's website and puts it in a banner. The ad format allows a company to put all its website functionality and content into a banner that is fed live by an API. The result is that ads are easily changed, always up to date and can even allow secure transactions in the banner.

Marketing Week Live! came to a close last Wednesday after drawing more than 10,000 marketing professionals to London's Olympia over its two days. In its second year, the UK's largest, fully integrated marketing event grew by 7 per cent on the 2009 show and brought together over 350 exhibitors from across the marketing mix. From specialised data marketing, to global market research companies, the breadth and depth of exhibitors this year put 2009 in the shade. With marketing professionals from some of the biggest brands in the UK and Europe in attendance, exhibitors came away with some major new business leads. With four distinct areas - Data Marketing, In-Store, Insight and Online Marketing - marketers were able to get to the disciplines they were looking for quickly and easily.

We have lift off! Apple has released the iPad in the UK and with it the arrival of the first legitimate wave of tablet devices. Two million have already been sold in the first two months of release. Earlier this year I wrote the report a report on tablet advertising called: "Tabvertising: the advertising and marketing opportunities on the iPad and other tablets". Here, I'll summarise the report's implications and opportunities for what tablets and the iPad offer in terms of display advertising, video, social media and search. One of the first conclusions of the Tabvertising report is that search will, understandably, play just as important a role on tablets as it does on any other internet ready device. For ad:Tech I have decided to focus and explore the search opportunity on the iPad in a little more detail than the report went into.

Online lead generation has a dubious background and with good cause -- In the past campaigns have been short-sighted, generating high volumes of leads but without substance. Here, we look at how to do it properly to get long-term quality results. The U.K. online lead generation (OLG) market is building up momentum -- fast! At the IAB, we formed a small group consisting of OLG specialists in 2008 (Goallover, Dianomi, Magnetise Group and LeadPoint). The aim was to use the expertise around the table to create educational material about OLG and how to use it successfully. Since then we have created four white papers and are about to release a buyer's guide for advertisers. The IAB OLG Council now has 26 member companies and has some big plans for the future. Although this channel is growing and education is still at the forefront of the IAB's mission, it is important to take and step back to see how it has evolved.

Melville Graphics has reinforced its green credentials by offering another new environmental initiative to event organisers and exhibitors as well as an additional tool to decrease the waste produced by the exhibition industry each year. Not content with simply supplying and installing recyclable PVC banners, the graphics division of Melville Exhibition & Event Services now removes all banners at the close of events and takes all obsolete items to its recycling facility. There the banners are ground up, melted down and turned into new raw material plastics used for the manufacture of ties and straps for young trees, waste bins and the like. This new service was trialled at IFSEC 2009, a leading event for the security sector organised by United Business Media (UBM). Volvo Cars has embarked a nine-week experiential launch of its new XC60 model, which will immerse 5,600 dealers from 32 countries in a theatrical two-day programme in Gothenburg, Sweden. Lord Puttnam, the Oscar-winning film producer, has been appointed chair of judges for the 2009 DMA awards. His interests span the creative industries, education and public policy. He is an established leader in advertising, having started his career at the legendary CDP working with the likes of Charles Saatchi and Sir Alan Parker before turning to film where he produced a host of award winning films including Chariots of Fire, The Killing Fields and The Mission.
