As love birds across the UK look forward to some Valentine's romance this weekend, more than half of 16- to 24-year-olds are likely to flock to the movies, according to research from Harris Interactive and cinema media house Digital Cinema Media. Youngsters in this age group are twice as likely as the rest of the UK population to see a film on Valentine's Day and 51% will go with their girlfriend or boyfriend. A romantic night at the pictures is not just the preserve of the young, however. Overall, one in five adults plan to see a flick and, of those, 65% will go with a partner or spouse. Just over one in five 25- to 34-year-olds are planning a night at the pictures and of these, nearly three quarters (73%) will go with a partner or spouse. The figure rises to 75% among 35- to 44-year-olds, (of whom 13% are likely to go to the cinema on Valentine's Day) and 82% of those in the 45 to 54-year old group (of whom one in ten plan to celebrate Valentine's by seeing a movie). Top films showing this weekend include new releases Valentine's Day and A Single Man with its Oscar nominated performance by Colin Firth, alongside Avatar, The Princess And The Frog, and Invictus.
