Marketing News: MC&C strengthens its offering with senior digital planner

In a significant move direct media specialists Mike Colling & Co, (MC&C) strengthens its digital offering with the appointment of senior digital planner Alastair Hubbard. He will work closely with Bodhi Morrison, digital group head, across key MC&C clients, including, RSPCA, Which? Salvation Army, Hotel Chocolat, Cash 4 Gold and Water Aid. Hubbard joins MC&C from Diffiniti where, as a digital planner, he worked on its Aviva and RAC accounts. He assisted with the rebrand of Norwich Union to Aviva and was integral in helping on client pitches and programmes. With a firm insight into technical innovation and emerging technologies Hubbard specialises in innovative integrated digital thinking and boasts extensive analytical and technical skills. His experience spans research, planning, business development and project management. Specialist independent sales house grows team with appointment of AdLINK Head of Product Management Addvantage Media, the independent online sales house, today announced that it has appointed Chris Knight as Head of Business Development. Marketing News: M&S shareholders have told the Observer that they want to step up the pace of change

Sir Stuart Rose is coming under increasing pressure to step down as chairman of Marks & Spencer as shareholders press for further change at the retailer. Little more than a month after unexpectedly announcing the appointment of Morrisons supermarket boss Marc Bolland as the new chief executive of M&S, investors now want the company to bring forward Roses scheduled departure date by at least a year. Rose, who controversially took on the joint role of chief executive and chairman last year, had pledged to find a new chief executive by July of next year and to step down as chairman in 2011. However, shareholders have told the Observer that they want to step up the pace of change. One said that he was optimistic the M&S chairman will not stay much longer. Rose has been a controversial figure with investors for the past 18 months after breaking City rules by taking on the dual role.

Marketing News: Ian Smith, the chief executive of business publisher Reed Elsevier, has resigned

Ian Smith, the chief executive of business publisher Reed Elsevier, has resigned with immediate effect after little more than eight months in the post. Reed Elsevier, publisher titles including Variety and New Scientist, made an announcement to the City this morning that Smith resigned with mutual agreement and has stepped down today from the company's board. Elsevier chief executive Erik Engstrom has been appointed as his replacement. In a short message of appreciation chairman Anthony Habgood thanked Smith and said he'd been charged with the difficult task of leading Reed Elsevier during unprecedented turbulent economic times. A company spokesman told Reuters that Smith had been the wrong man for the current economic climate. The spokesman said: Ian and the board decided it wasn't the right role for him in the current economic circumstances. Erik has proven sector experience. There is no disagreement on strategy.

Marketing News: Rob Page is to join Ignis Asset Management to head its global marketing effort

Former Liontrust marketing director Rob Page is to join Ignis Asset Management to head its global marketing effort. Page, who has left Liontrust Asset Management after just over a year in his role, will report to Ignis sales & marketing director Jonathan Polin and drive its marketing efforts both in the UK and Europe. Prior to joining Liontrust he held a senior marketing role at New Star Asset Management. Many of his former colleagues from there are working at Ignis. The current occupant of the global marketing role at Ignis, Tommy Adams, is to remain with the group and take a product development role.
