Marketing News: IMEX APPOINTS SPINNAKER AS ITS FIRST EVER DM AGENCY

IMEX, the worldwide exhibition for incentive travel, meetings and events, has appointed integrated agency Spinnaker following a two way pitch process. The IMEX exhibition runs over three days in Frankfurt, Germany and plays host to 3,500 exhibitors from 157 different countries. Exhibitors represent national and regional tourist offices, major hotel groups, airlines, destination management companies, service providers and trade associations amongst others. Over 3,700 hosted buyers (who travel and stay free as guests of the organisers) from around 60 world markets also visited the exhibition in 2009, contributing to a total of almost 9,000 visitors for the show's busiest three days in its seven year history.

Spinnaker, the leading integrated direct and digital marketing agency, has won a tactical project from Tourism Ireland following a three way pitch. The project will feature a direct mail pack incorporating the line "The All Singing, All Dancing Business Destination", due to drop in early October. It will be sent to around 6000 conference and event planners and will highlight Ireland as a great place to do business. The mailer will also encourage them to consider Ireland as a potential place for their conferences and talks about the great 'Special Offer' hotel and delegate rates that Tourism Ireland is offering, for example 24 hour hotel rates from £70 and day delegate rates from £22.50. Marketing News: AXA UK appoints new Marketing Director

AXA UK has appointed Cheryl Toner as Group Marketing and Communication Director as Olivier Mariée, the incumbent director, takes up the global role of Group Marketing and Distribution Director based at AXA's headquarters in Paris. Toner will take up her new role from 1 November, reporting directly to Nicolas Moreau, Group Chief Executive of AXA UK, and will become a member of the AXA UK Executive Committee. Toner will lead the overall development and implementation of the marketing, brand and communication strategies to ensure that AXA realises its ambitions to become the trusted market leader for its distributors and customers in the UK and in Ireland. Sony Pictures Releasing is due to open the Peter Jackson-produced film District 9 in the UK on Friday 4th September and Spinnaker has created both seeding activity and an online campaign for the film's release. The film recently opened in the US at No 1. To reflect the real life documentary feel of the film and bring the alien Sci-Fi content to life Spinnaker, who work across all of Sony's UK releases, has set up a phone line for human beings to call and report non-human activity – as part of the seeding phase. The phone line is being promoted via the Google Ad Network, on press releases and via email signatures from the Sony Pictures team. Since the line went live there have been hundreds of callers leaving messages about alien sightings in the UK.

Lancashire pupil's surprise as design project transforms the way school meals are promoted to school children nationwide 12 year old Laura Doherty, a pupil at Haslingden High School, Lancashire has won the inaugural School Food Trust Million Meals campaign competition. Laura entered her innovative poster design into the national competition which was devised by leading UK design and marketing agency Spinnaker. It called on pupils across the country to help design an advertising campaign which would encourage a million more school children to enjoy a healthy school meal every day by 2010.
